Investigators Notes

Beth McLenaghan:I enjoyed this investigation. The building is beautiful, and was fascinating to spend time in. If asked during the investigation, I would have said I felt nothing overtly "paranormal" about the place, except for feeling "funny" when we first went down to the "A" level. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, stated that I felt uncomfortable, and didn't like the space. I broke out into a cold sweat and felt vaguely like I was going to faint. I attributed it to the heat and humidity. It worsened, and as the rest of the team went into the kitchen, etc- I asked directions to the restroom, went in and splashed water onto my face, and applied cold papertowels to my wrists. In a few minutes, I felt better and rejoined the team. That only because potentially pertinent when I went through my digital photos. I took 158 of them. of the 30-35 that had orbs in them (varying from a few bright ones, to many very faint ones) it because obvious that about 85-90% of them were in photos taken at the bottom of the stairs. This was an interesting investigation. I prefer to go into investigations with no knowledge of the place, so that any sensations or feelings I get can't be blamed on bits of information learned beforehand. During the initial tour of the place, as we descended into the basement, I began to break out in a cold sweat, and to feel pretty awful. (I had not been sick prior to the investigation.) For about 15 minutes, I had to spend some quality time in the restroom, and spent a fair amount of it, with my head between my knees, or splashing cold water on my face, or holding cold, wet papertowels to the nape of my neck. The feeling concentrated at the bottom of the staircase to the basement from the main dining level. Interestingly, this is a spot I got a couple unusual photos, using my digital camera.

Hugh McLenaghan:There was only 1 weird thing that happened to me. I set up a video camera pointing to stairs that a woman is said to go down. The battery was fully charged and after 4 minutes the battery was fully discharged. I didn't notice for about 30 minutes. I put it on A/C power and it showed the battery was fully discharged. We watched the video, but didn't see anything unusual on there. Apart from that incident, I didn't feel or see anything unusual.

Kelli Patrick:Equipment used: Sony Nightshot video camera, laser thermometer, 35mm camera, motion detector. The motion detector was placed in room 101 where there has been reported activity. It kept going off because of the vibration of the doors, so it was moved to room 120 where more activity has been reported. We had the same problem, so it was not used (a brand new battery was used). My laser thermometer remained at 65-70 throughout the investigation. I reviewed my video and it was negative for any anomalies. It was placed at the bottom of the steps that a report of the lady in a black dress was seen going down the stairs after hours. It was facing toward the stairs and part of the bar area/ hallway. I did take 4 pictures w/ my 35mm camera and am waiting to get developed.

Becky Ray:This is such a delightful and historic place. On our initial walk through, I was immediately taken in with how many souls must have traveled through the area. The building itself was completed in 1914 and during its busiest years approximately 200 passenger trains came through Union Station. Train travel began to decline in the 1950s and by the 1970s large sections of it had been closed down. Thankfully, Union Station was renovated at the turn of the century, and is the beauty we see today.
We listened to several first hand accounts of activity at this location, and then set up for the night. The humidity was above 60%, the geomagnetic field was unsettled, and there was a thunderstorm occurring outside, so I basically decided trying take any sort of electromagnetic readings was pointless and just set up video cameras, an audio recorder, and used my hand held 35 mm.
I took several photos, and will review those soon. I am presently reviewing my video and audio.

She Cheated Death - 11:46 PM - 1st October, 2005 - A Business in Union Station
00:00 / 00:00

This is an interesting EVP. It sounds as if it is saying, "She absolutely did. I've seen her. She cheated death."
What is interesting is that one of our members was legally dead in 1991 but revived, and was sitting not too far away in the hallway from where this was recorded.

Magnetic Disturbance - 11:51 PM - 1st October, 2005 - A Business in Union Station
00:00 / 00:00

We had been told by the staff that one of the apparitions had been seen entering a specific dining area so we had placed a motion detector in there. This detector had been tripped several times, so I decided to place my micro cassette recorder in the room to see if I could pick anything up. Shortly before the motion detector goes off, there are several magnetic disturbances on the tape with soft voices around them. This is the only place on the tape this happens. The recorder was in full view of my video camera and no one was in the room.

Anybody There - 11:52 PM - 1st October, 2005 - A Business in Union Station
00:00 / 00:00

This is the first EVP from the clip, only filtered. We still do not know what the first voice is saying. The interesting thing about the second voice is that it sounds like our member Kelli saying, "Anybody there?" However, when I reviewed my video of this time, no one was in the room. Perhaps "they" were imitating her?

Unknown - 11:52 PM - 1st October, 2005 - A Business in Union Station
00:00 / 00:00

This clip is the audio from my video camera. You can hear the first part of the EVP that is unknown without the distracting distortion of the magnetic tape. Also notice that the second voice that sounds like Kelli is not present.

Again, this clip is filtered from the magnetic disturbance before the motion detector was set off.
