Investigators Notes

Kelli Patrick:Waverly Hills Sanatorium opened in around 1910 because of an outbreak of tuberculosis. It opened as a 40 room hospital and they found that they needed to add on very quickly. In 1926, they finished the building to what it is today. It is said that 63,000 people died at Waverly Hills over the years, but that is just what records are still around. It is actually thought to have been around 123,000 or more. A lot of records were lost or not kept. The hospital was turned into a geriatric hospital around 1958 because there was a cure for TB and no longer a use for this building. The state came in a shut down the hosptial for neglect and abuse around 1982. This is the last time electricity lit up this Louisville, KY hospital. TB also infected the brain, kidneys and other parts of the body. Families would travel with their loved one to the hospital and would have to stay at the hospital because they too, had now contracted TB. Patient's were taken for daily treatments of fresh air in the solariums. Sometimes, the patient beds would be covered with snow when they were out in the solarium in the Winter. In the last ten years, vandals have really destroyed this mammoth building. It was very sad to see that people have mistreated this place. A couple bought the place and are currently remodeling to what it once was. During the investigation, we were told by a tour guide that they strung the bodies up in the basement near the "body chute" or "death tunnel" and would cut them open like a deer to bleed them. It was supposedly to let the TB infected blood out, so no one living would catch the bloodborne disease. It is not and was not a bloodborne disease and they knew that at the time. They knew it was respiratory (so that was false). Some of this info. was provided by Tifany and Tim from OhioValley group. OhioValleyPR@yahoogroups.com Ghostly reports say that there is a little girl on the first floor that wants to play with anyone who walks in the door. An orderly on the 4th floor. Strange things in room 502, where a nurse hung herself at the beginning of her shift in the mental floor shower. She was not found until the end of her shift about 12 hours later. The patients had to walk by her hanging lifeless body to take a shower. Another nurse jumped off of the roof. What we saw: Becky Ray and myself went to the Sanatorium for a conference and overnight investigation on September 25-26th. The investigation started at 10 pm in the cafeteria. We were at the back of the room listening to a speaker when several of us in our group saw a female spirit glide across the hall in a patient gown. She had bright blonde hair, was pale/glowing looking and was covering her mouth as to prevent the spread of TB possibly. We were not ready to see this 30 minutes into walking in this great building. We didn't have time to take any pictures, but 4 of saw the same thing! We went around to the doorway and she was nowhere to be found. We broke off into our groups and investigated different parts of the building. We started out in the body chute where they transported the bodies to a waiting hearse at the bottom of the hill (485 feet away). This was done because they didn't want the morale of the patient's to go down. Doors to the chute slammed several times when we were in there. On the second floor, we stood in the hallway outside the cafeteria. For 45 minutes, we saw a lot of shadow people, "sparklers" floating, pinpoint lights, spirits walking toward us. We would see the shadow people walk by us, stand next to us, and go in between us when we walked around. We had several cold spots that would be around us. On the 3rd floor, we were in several locations. Another group had set up motion detectors and cameras in several rooms. We could see spirits coming down the hall and go back down the hall. As they did this, the cameras would go off as they went by that room. The spirit would come near us about 50 feet away and turn around, doing this several times. We saw more shadow people, heard doors slamming, and foot steps. On the 4th floor, we heard foot steps, doors slamming, and more shadow people. We did see a couple of spirits walking down the hall. 5th floor, in room 502- an investigator snapped my picture and an orb is above my head. I am trying to get the picture from him.
